The Reds want to go into the Boxing Days as league leaders
Spurs are not having a good season, at least in terms of results. As a result, they are only in 10th place in the Premier League table. After 3 games without a win in a row, they at least secured a convincing 0:5 win at Southampton FC last weekend. The Saints were and are currently bottom of the table, but now Spurs face the league leaders. Liverpool FC have still only conceded one defeat this season. Recently, however, they have lost some ground and only managed 2 draws. After a win in the EFL Cup, they now want to get back to winning ways in the Premier League. They probably also need a win to go into Boxing Day as league leaders, as Chelsea are only 2 points behind.

Tottenham usually perform strongly against top opponents
Spurs probably prefer to play against strong opponents this year, as they have usually put in strong performances in the top games this season. Among other things, they have won two games against Manchester clubs. Most of their points have been dropped against teams further down the table. Coach Ange Postecoglu is therefore under increasing pressure. After 3 games without a win in a row, they at least celebrated another convincing 0:5 win against Southampton FC on the last matchday. They only made a minimal jump to 10th place in the table and are therefore still clearly below their own expectations. A win against Liverpool FC would probably put things right, especially for the fans. They would also move closer to the top 4 in the table. To achieve this, however, they need to stabilize their defence. Although they managed to keep a clean sheet recently, they conceded 4-3 at home to Chelsea FC the week before. 11 goals conceded in 8 home games. The two central defenders Christian Romero and Micky van de Ven are still questionable.

Coach Ange Postecoglu can no longer afford much
The Australian has only won one of his team's last 6 competitive matches. They have not even won at home in 4 games. One of the defeats there was against promoted Ipswich Town. In these last 4 home games, they conceded a total of 9 goals, but were always successful with at least one goal themselves. It is therefore not surprising that 4 of Tottenham's last 7 games have ended with more than 3.5 goals. In 8 home games in the Premier League, they scored an outstanding 20 goals.

The Reds are still the outstanding team in the Premier League and also in Europe. In addition to leading the Champions League, they are also top of the Premier League table. However, after 2 draws in a row, their lead has shrunk somewhat and Chelsea FC are now only 2 points behind. However, Liverpool still have a game in hand and can extend their lead back to 5 points. However, a defeat against Spurs should not be allowed, because then they would not have won 3 league games in a row. In the EFL Cup during the week, they won 1-2 at Southampton FC. Liverpool have the 4th best offense in the league and by far the best defense. 13 goals were conceded in 15 games. In the last two games against Newcastle (3:3) and Fulham (2:2) they conceded 5 goals alone. The absence of Ibrahima Konate is also evident here. Coach Arne Slot is once again spoiled for choice in attack. Diogo Jota returned from injury and Federico Chiesa also saw his first minutes in several months in the EFL Cup. Both could be back in the squad for the game against Tottenham.
