Reigning champions Manchester City will have nothing to do with the league title this season, which is as good as certain after 25 matchdays. They are already 16 points adrift of league leaders and their next opponents Liverpool, but they currently occupy 4th place in the table and therefore a Champions League place. However, a defeat could see them quickly drop back to 6th place. Liverpool, on the other hand, will keep the lead in the table in any case, as the gap to their closest rivals Arsenal is too big. However, the Reds have struggled somewhat so far in 2025 and have not necessarily scored with outstanding performances.

The reigning English champions are experiencing a season of horror. They were knocked out of the EFL Cup, finished fourth in the Premier League and are in danger of being knocked out of the Champions League in the play-offs against Real Madrid. The only real chance of winning the title therefore seems to be the FA Cup. The team's lack of consistency is to blame for this situation. In the Premier League alone, the team has already conceded 7 defeats in just 25 games. In December and November 2024 alone, they suffered 9 defeats. They have also been beaten 3 times this year. In the league, the last away game was a 5:1 defeat against Arsenal FC. In the first leg against Real Madrid, they were beaten 3-2 at home. They put in another good performance on the last matchday in the Premier League. They secured a well-deserved 4:0 win against Newcastle United. With 52 goals, they now also have the best offense of all teams behind Liverpool FC. Alone 28 goals were scored in 12 home games, which is significantly more than 2.00 goals per game. 8 out of 12 home games were won, only 2 times they had to admit defeat. Not a good record against Liverpool FC

Liverpool had a game off in the Champions League
The Reds finished first in the group stage of the top flight and qualified directly for the round of 16. They won 7 out of 8 games, only narrowly losing to PSV on the last matchday with a B team. Unlike their opponents, they therefore had no games in this competition. However, coach Arne Slot has a broad squad anyway, with hardly any long-term injuries this season.
