Will the Portuguese take the lead from the start?
The 2016 European champions start the tournament and face the Czech Republic on matchday 1. In their group with their opponents, Georgia and Turkey, they are the favorites to win the group. With a squad market value of over €1 billion, they are also a title contender, even if things have not gone their way in recent major events. First and foremost, Portugal have a world-class offense and have shown this regularly of late. The Czech Republic can't keep up here, but they also have enough international experience in their squad. On paper, they will probably be fighting for 2nd place against Turkey. Is Portugal the secret favorite or the top favorite?
Few experts have Portugal on their radar when it comes to picking the next European champions. This is somewhat surprising, as they have the highest market value of all the teams behind England and France. The quality is therefore undisputed and they also seem to have done a lot right with coach Roberto Martinez. 12 of 13 games under his management have been won. However, things have rarely gone according to plan at recent major events. They have not reached the semi-finals of a World Cup since 2006. At Euro 2021, they were also defeated in the round of 16. One positive exception was Euro 2016, when they sensationally secured the European Championship title. They are aiming to do so again this year.
Portugal actually have all the prerequisites for this. With Antonio Silva and Goncalo Inacio, they now also have two young central defenders at international level. Apart from captain Ruben Dias, this has certainly been the biggest weakness in recent years. In attack, on the other hand, the coach is spoiled for choice. With Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Rafael Leao, Diogo Jota and, of course, Cristiano Ronaldo, there is plenty of quality to choose from. And they usually bring this quality to the pitch. As briefly mentioned above, they have won 12 of their last 13 games. Their only defeat this year came in a test match against Slovenia. This was also the only game in which they failed to score. In 10 of 13 games, they scored at least 2 goals. A total of 45 goals were scored in 13 games and only 8 goals were conceded. Not once did they concede more than 2 goals.

Can the Czech Republic impress at the next European Championship?
Since 1996, the Czech Republic has always qualified for the European Championship finals. In 7 European Championships, they have reached the final once, the semi-finals once and the quarter-finals twice. The result is impressive, especially as they are not one of the absolute top teams in Europe. In 2021, they came through a strong group with England and Croatia and also defeated the Netherlands in the round of 16. The final stop was then in the quarter-finals against Denmark. However, they will have a similar goal again this year. It is probably even an advantage to face Portugal in the first game. Most people are expecting a defeat, but a point would be a positive surprise.
Despite the successful qualification, the association decided to change the coach at the beginning of the year. After 56 games, Jaroslav Silhavy had to step down and Ivan Hasek took over. The start under the 60-year-old Czech, who had already been on the sidelines for 5 games in 2009, was successful. In 2 games against Norway and Armenia, the team secured narrow 2:1 victories. In total, the Czech national team has now been unbeaten in 5 international matches. The only defeat since November 2022 was away against Albania (3:0). Otherwise, they are usually very solid in defense. Apart from the defeat, they have never conceded more than one goal in their last 9 games. Portugal against the Czech Republic is usually a clear-cut affair
This is the 5th time these two nations have met. The 3rd time alone they have met at a European Championship. The first time was in 1996 in the quarter-finals when the Czech Republic won 1:0. Portugal celebrated victories at Euro 2008 and Euro 2012. This was also the case in the two clashes in the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League season. In Group 2, the Portuguese won both matches, without conceding a goal and scoring a total of 6 goals. With 2 goals each, Cristiano Ronaldo and Diogo Dalot are among the record scorers. Portugal face a difficult opening game - Our prediction
Portugal is and remains the favorite in this match. A tip 1 is therefore the simplest and most logical betting option. However, the Czech Republic will be an unpleasant opponent, not least because they will be full of confidence. We don't think a draw is out of the question. However, the defense will try to keep a clean sheet for as long as possible. We would therefore rather bet on under 2.5 goals in the match.
