Who will manage the turnaround after recent poor performances?
Manchester United have started the new season just as weakly as they finished the last one. The Red Devils are in 14th place in the table after 4 matchdays and have only won one of 4 games. This was a narrow 3:2 victory in the last second against promoted Burnley. Not much speaks in favor of the hosts, also because they had no chance against City in the derby on the last matchday. Chelsea are in a much better position and occupy 5th place in the table. They are still unbeaten in the Premier League, but have also dropped points against Brentford and Crystal Palace. They also conceded a defeat to Bayern in the Champions League. In any case, the visitors still lack the consistency of a top team.

The air is getting thinner and thinner at Manchester United
Manchester United have been on an almost unbelievable downward spiral for years. Last season's 15th place finish was the absolute low point. Nevertheless, the club has stuck with coach Ruben Amorim and once again invested heavily in new players in the summer. However, this does not seem to be working at the moment, because after 14 matchdays, they are once again in a disappointing 14th place in the table and have only won one of their 4 games so far. They have only scored 4 goals and conceded 7. Their only win came at home against promoted Burnley 3-2, with the winning goal coming in stoppage time. Their two defeats came in the top games against Arsenal and Manchester City. They failed to score in either game. The negative highlight was certainly the defeat in the EFL Cup against Grimsby Town, where they were beaten on penalties. Should they now also lose against Chelsea, they could slip down to a relegation place in the meantime.

The Portuguese has been in charge of Manchester United for 47 games and has the worst points average of any coach after Sir Alex Ferguson. They have conceded more defeats than they have won. Chelsea now need another win
Chelsea FC have actually started the season very well and are in 5th place in the Premier League. They are one of only 3 teams still unbeaten and have 8 points. After an opening 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace, they picked up two convincing wins against West Ham (5-1) and Fulham (2-0). This was followed by a minor disappointment when they had to settle for a 2-2 draw in the last minute against Brentford FC. They then suffered their first defeat of the season in the Champions League when they were beaten 3:1 away to Bayern. The team still lacks consistency, partly because they replaced almost their entire attack in the summer. Coach Enzo Maresca does not have an easy job, but has done very well so far. In the clash against ManU, they will naturally want to get back to winning ways, as a defeat could see the gap to league leaders Liverpool grow to 7 points. They have already managed to keep a clean sheet in 2 games this season, but their strength so far has been their offense. With 9 goals, they are currently number 1 in the league together with Arsenal and Liverpool.
