Brighton aim to make it into the top 4 against Southampton. Prediction, 29.11.24

The Seagulls face the last-placed promoted team at home

Published on 25.11.2024 07:00.

Brighton & Hove Albion and Fabian Hürzeler - that seems to be the case at the moment. The youngest coach in the Premier League has made a very good start and his team is level on points with Arsenal and Chelsea in fifth place in the table. Most recently, they even defeated reigning champions Manchester City 2:1 at home. The hosts are therefore still unbeaten at home and will want to remain so against Southampton FC. The newly promoted side are still struggling in the Premier League. With just 4 points from 12 games, they are bottom of the table and are already 5 points behind the drop zone. Despite consistently good performances, they rarely manage to reward themselves. They have lost all 6 games away from home so far.

Brighton are again clear favorites at home, also because Southampton have lost every away game so far. Brighton could record their 3rd win in a row.

Brighton want to continue to annoy the top teams

The Seagulls have been playing for international places in the Premier League for years. After finishing 11th last season, they seem to have made another leap forward this year. With Fabian Hürzeler as the youngest Premier League coach, the team is in a strong 5th place after 12 matchdays. They have collected 22 points so far, the same number as the two top teams Chelsea and Arsenal. A win against Southampton FC would even see them temporarily move up to second place. It would be the Seagulls' 3rd win in a row. Previously, they beat reigning champions Manchester City 2-1 and celebrated a 1-2 success away at Bournemouth. Brighton have now won half of their 12 games, only losing twice. This was once away at Chelsea (4-2) and away at league leaders Liverpool (2-1). Considering Brighton have played all the teams in the Big Six, their points haul is even more astonishing. With 21 goals, they can also keep up with the best attacking teams in the league. The 16 goals are certainly a bit too many. In their own stadium, however, they have only conceded 8 goals in 6 games.

Brighton have yet to lose at home in the Premier League

Another strength of the hosts is their home games. They have yet to lose in front of their own fans in the Premier League this year. In 6 games, they have won 3 and drawn 3, putting them in 6th place in the home table. Together with Arsenal and Brentford, they are the only unbeaten home team in the league. However, they are not completely unbeaten at home, as they lost 2-1 to Liverpool FC in the EFL Cup.

Southampton's performances are right, the results are not

Southampton only managed direct promotion back to the Premier League last season. With the 38-year-old Russell Martin as coach, they have developed a playing philosophy. This is currently respectable and the performances are mostly good, but the results are clearly lacking. After 12 matchdays, the Saints are in last place in the table and are already 5 points behind the drop zone. They have collected just 4 points and only one win. The win came on matchday 10 at home against Everton FC. They managed a draw against the other promoted team, Ipswich Town. Southampton have the worst offense in the league with 9 goals. The 24 goals conceded are the 2nd worst figure after Wolverhampton Wanderers. The last matchday saw a 2:3 defeat against Liverpool. It was the 4th defeat in the last 5 games. It was also the 11th game in which they conceded at least one goal.

The visitors have yet to pick up a point away from home

The away performances are particularly worrying. In 6 away games, they have yet to collect a single point. All 6 games have been lost and the goal difference here stands at 3:13 goals. In the last two away games against Wolverhampton and Manchester City, they failed to score any goals of their own. In general, they did not manage to score more than once. With Adam Armstrong and Cameron Archer, there are also only 2 players in the squad with more than one goal to their name.

Brighton clear favorites at home - Our analysis

The Seagulls are still unbeaten at home and now face bottom-of-the-table Southampton. For us, this is a pretty clear number for the hosts and a safe bet for your combination betting slip. Southampton also have the worst offense in the league. As a risk bet, we would therefore bet on a nil win for Brighton.
