Is this match about winning the group?
In Group F of the FIFA Club World Cup, the two heavy favorites Fluminense and Dortmund will face each other. The Asian representative Ulsan Hyundai and the African representative Mamelodi Sundowns are only considered outsiders. Fluminense must not be underestimated
The top team from Brazil is certainly not one of the absolute top favorites to win the FIFA Club World Cup, but at the same time nobody will underestimate them. The knockout phase has been factored in, they are clearly number 2 in Group F behind Borussia Dortmund and have significantly more quality in their squad than the two teams from Asia and Africa. They also have the advantage that, unlike Dortmund, they are on the pitch and therefore in rhythm. They have performed well in the Brazilian league in recent weeks and are in 6th place in the table, just 4 points behind rivals Flamengo. Coach Renato Gaucho has only been in charge since this season and has won 10 of the first 15 competitive matches with his team. Most recently, they even managed 4 wins in a row and have been unbeaten for a total of 6 games. With just 12 goals conceded in 11 games, they are very strong in defense and have recently gone 2 games in a row without conceding a goal.
In offense, on the other hand, they are struggling a bit and currently have hardly any reliable goal scorers. The top scorer in recent weeks has been Kevin Serna, who has only scored 3 goals. Dortmund wants to take the momentum from the Bundesliga with it
Dortmund naturally see the FIFA Club World Cup as a great opportunity to improve their financial position. Although they are not the big favorites for the title, first place in their group should be possible and should also be planned for. Especially as they should arrive with a lot of self-confidence.
