Tottenham and ManU duel in the lower mid-table. Prediction, 16.02.25

Who will succeed against a Big Six team?

Published on 12.02.2025 23:02.

Both teams are among the biggest disappointments of this Premier League season. Instead of competing for the Champions League or even the title, these two Big Six clubs are in 14th and 13th place. They are currently closer to the relegation places than the Champions League places and there is hardly any improvement in sight. ManU have only won 2 of their last 5 games and recently conceded a defeat against Crystal Palace. Tottenham at least managed a win against Brentford after a 4-game losing streak. With a win, Spurs could at least overtake the Red Devils in the table.

How much longer will Ange Postecoglu be in office?

It's relatively easy to describe Tottenham Hotspur's season so far: disappointing. After a very good first season under coach Ange Postecoglu, this season has been disappointing across the board. They have already been knocked out of both cup competitions and no longer have a chance of winning a title. In the Europa League, they at least made it to the round of 16. In the Premier League, they are in 14th place after 24 match days and are closer to the relegation places than the international starting places. Spurs have lost 13 of 24 games this season, winning just 8. They are already an incredible 29 points adrift of league leaders Liverpool with one game in hand. After a briefly strong phase with 3 wins from 4 games, they have lost their last two games again. In the EFL Cup, they suffered a 4:0 defeat at Liverpool FC and were eliminated. They were also beaten in the FA Cup, losing 2-1 at Aston Villa. This was their 6th defeat in 2025 and came in early November. The Spurs continue to have major injury worries, especially in defense, which is why they were also upgraded in the winter. Kevin Danso will only play his 3rd game against ManU.

Half of the home games were lost

In the game against Manchester United, they cannot rely on their home strength, as they have lost more games at home than they have won. Tottenham have only won 4 out of 12 home games and have lost half of those 12 games. With 27 goals, they are very decent offensively and are responsible for more than 2.00 goals on average. However, the struggling defense has already conceded 23 goals and has always conceded at least 2 goals in the last 5 home games. Tottenham have only managed to keep a clean sheet once at home so far.

ManU is slight favorite - Our tip: Double chance X/2

ManU getting better under Ruben Amorim

While Tottenham are not showing any signs of an upward trend, ManU have improved somewhat in recent weeks under new coach Ruben Amorim. This is primarily reflected in the results, as ManU have won 4 of their last 5 competitive matches. In the Europa League, they beat Glasgow Rangers and Steaua Bucharest. In the FA Cup, they narrowly beat Leicester City and in the league they won 0:1 at Fulham FC. However, their last league game to date was a 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace. It was their 2nd home defeat in a row. On the other hand, the Red Devils have been unbeaten away from home for 4 games, picking up a win against Arsenal and a draw against league leaders Liverpool. However, little of this upward trend in form is visible in the table, as they are still only in 13th place Even with a win against Tottenham, they could only climb to 11th place and would still be in the bottom half of the table. Like their opponents, they have also made it directly into the last 16 of the Europa League, which means they will save themselves two competitive games.

The Red Devils need to score more goals

While Tottenham's shaky defense is the big problem, ManU has big problems at the other end of the pitch. The team has scored just 28 goals in 24 league games this season. There are only 4 teams in the league that are worse in this respect. Manchester United have scored more than 2 goals in just 4 games this season. There is only one player in the squad who has scored more than 5 goals and that is Amad Diallo with 6 goals. In the last game so far against Leicester in the Cup, Joshua Zirkzee was once again able to draw attention to himself with a goal.

The teams could neutralize each other - Our analysis

Both teams are playing an underground season. Tottenham have major defensive problems and ManU are hardly scoring any goals. It is therefore quite possible that the two teams will neutralize each other. We would therefore expect less than 3.5 goals. Based on their form in recent weeks, we would slightly favor the Red Devils and go for a double chance X/2 bet.
