Top match between Sturm Graz and Rapid Vienna. Prediction, 10.08.25

Who will take the 2nd win of the season?

Published on 06.08.2025 14:34.

Reigning champions Sturm Graz are once again the big favorites for the Austrian Bundesliga title this year, and not just for a few experts. The Blackies put in a very strong performance on matchday 1, beating LASK 2-0 away from home in what was probably their strongest performance on matchday 1. The visitors from Vienna were also able to prevail on matchday 1, although they also had a bit of luck against fearsome opponents Blau-Weiß Linz. Nevertheless, Rapid have made a successful start to the season and coach Peter Stöger is still unbeaten with his team. Now they may face their first real endurance test.

Sturm Graz has presented itself like a champion so far

Graz have played two competitive matches so far this season and won both of them in commanding fashion. In the ÖFB Cup, there was a 0:4 away win at Bischofshofen. In the Austrian Bundesliga, they also passed the first acid test on matchday 1 against LASK. In the away game, the team was clearly the better team, winning 2-0. Otar Kiteishvili and Leon Grgic were responsible for the two goals. The score was 0:2 for Sturm Graz after just 12 minutes. However, there was also a small downer, as new signing Tim Oermann had to be substituted due to injury. The German central defender will therefore miss the game against Rapid. Sturm currently occupy joint 2nd place in the table, with only WSG Tirol ahead of them thanks to a 4-2 win against Hartberg.

Will Sturm face his fearsome opponent?

The Blackies have been the best team in Austria in the last two years, but they also have a fearful opponent and that is Rapid Vienna. In the last 4 duels, Sturm have only managed one win against the Viennese. However, this was in the last home game when they won 2:0. Away from home, they were beaten twice in a row, losing 1:0 and 3:1 respectively. There was also a 1-1 draw at home in Graz in between. In total, only 4 of the last 10 head-to-head matches have been won, with 3 defeats and 3 draws.

Peter Stöger has breathed new life into Rapid

Rapid Vienna have a new coach this season in Peter Stöger and he has impressed in every area so far. The former Dortmund and Cologne coach has won all four of his competitive matches this season and has a goal difference of 8:2 goals. In the ÖFB Cup, as in the Bundesliga, it was a narrow 1:0 win against FC Wacker and Blau-Weiß Linz. However, the defense stood firm in both games. This was also the case in the first leg of the Europa Conference League qualifier against Decic Tuzi, which they won 2-0. They then also won 4:2 at home, although they conceded the only two goals of the season so far. Nevertheless, their record is outstanding with 4 wins from 4 games.

Rapid has a strong squad this season

Although the Green-Whites lost a key player in Isak Jansson, they also received €10 million from Nice in return. On the other hand, they invested this money well and brought in three attacking players in Janis Antiste, Andrija Radulovic and Petter Dahl. All 3 players were already in the starting line-up on matchday 1. As was Jannes Horn, who came from Nuremberg as the new left-back. Incidentally, Petter Dahl also scored the goal in the 1-0 win against Blau-Weiß Linz and Janis Antiste provided the assist. It is quite possible that Peter Stöger has once again shown a knack for transfers.

A winning bet is difficult to predict - Our forecast

Sturm may be the favorites at home, but Rapid have shown up so far in this still young season and have won all of their 4 competitive matches. We would therefore advise against a win bet and rather recommend a bet on "Both teams score YES". Their last clash ended in a 3:1 win for Rapid, so another bet on over 3.5 goals is a bit risky, but could still be worthwhile.
