Real Madrid battles for the lead in the table
The Whites have a real top match ahead of them and must defend their lead in La Liga. City rivals Atletico Madrid are in second place in the table with just one point less. Real Madrid have only themselves to blame for their starting position, as they suffered a surprising 1:0 away defeat at Espanyol Barcelona on the last matchday. It was their first defeat in the league since the beginning of December when they were beaten by Athletic Bilbao. In total, they were beaten for the 3rd time this season. 4 games ended in a draw, including the first clash against Atletico Madrid in September 2024. Major personnel worries in the defense
Real have major personnel problems in the city duel. With Eder Militao, Antonio Rüdiger and David Alaba, all 3 regular defenders are currently out through injury. Added to this is the long-term injury to Dani Carvajal. In the Copa del Rey during the week, the central defense was therefore Raul Asencio and Jacobo Ramon. Both normally play in Madrid's 2nd team. The visitors naturally only have one goal in the top match and that is to win. A win would see them overtake Real Madrid in the table and take the lead.
