Liverpool FC play for the championship at home against Tottenham. Prediction, 27.04.25

The Reds could be English champions after this game

Published on 23.04.2025 21:06.

Liverpool FC are by far the most consistent club in the English Premier League this year. After 33 matchdays, the Reds are 13 points ahead of Arsenal at the top of the table. In practice, this lead is almost impossible to catch up on and in theory, they now have the chance to crown themselves champions for the first time against Tottenham. Should Liverpool win the game against Spurs, they would be crowned English champions. Tottenham could be a grateful opponent, as they are playing a season to forget and are only 16th in the table! Although they will have nothing to do with relegation, the 18 defeats will probably cost coach Ange Postecoglu his job at the end of the season.

Liverpool become English champions in 2025

After winning the league title in the coronavirus year 2020, Liverpool FC is now on the verge of another championship. This time, of course, they want to celebrate with the fans and what better way than a home game against Tottenham? In this top match, Liverpool could crown themselves champions with a win. For Arne Slot, it would be his first title in his first year with the Reds. However, the hosts have also been the most consistent and best team in the Premier League throughout the season. A lead of 13 points over Arsenal FC does not lie. Although they have not always had an easy time of it in recent weeks, they have won 4 of their last 5 games. Only away at Fulham FC were they defeated 3:2. It was only their 2nd defeat in the league this season. With 24 wins, they have also won the most of any team.

No more title chances in other competitions

As well as Liverpool performed in the Premier League, they were eliminated in other competitions. First and foremost in the English FA Cup. They were beaten in the 4th round by the lower-ranked team Plymouth Argyle. They cut a better figure in the EFL Cup, where they reached the final but lost to Newcastle United (1:2). In the Champions League, they were considered the big favorites after the group stage, but were unlucky in the round of 16 and had to face Paris St. Germain. In two evenly-matched duels, they ultimately lost on penalties.

Tottenham play a historically bad season

Spurs are having a season to forget, especially in the Premier League. The former Champions League finalists are only in 16th place, just two places above the relegation places. However, they are far enough ahead of them that there is no need to worry about staying in the league. However, the record is dreadful, with 18 of 33 games lost. Only the 3 teams in the relegation places have more defeats here. This has not improved practically the entire season, because even now, when nothing is at stake for the team in the league, they are losing one game after the other. They have lost 4 of their last 5 games, with only a win against bottom-of-the-table Southampton. The 61 goals scored is the best figure in the bottom half of the table, while the 51 goals conceded is the 4th worst in the league. On the last two matchdays, they lost against Wolverhampton (4:2) and Nottingham Forest (1:2).

The focus is clearly on the Europa League

Tottenham Hotspur put in their best performances in the Europa League. From now on, that is where the clear focus lies, because if they win the title, they would be represented in next year's Champions League. This is also Spurs' only chance. After beating AZ Alkmaar in the round of 16, they beat Eintracht Frankfurt in the quarter-finals. Now they are the clear favorites in the semi-finals against Norwegian representatives Bdo/Glimt and will face Manchester United or Athletic Bilbao in the possible final.

Liverpool shoot their way to the league title - Our prediction

The Reds are on the brink of the Premier League title and want to win it at Anfield Road at all costs. Tottenham have long since turned their focus to the Europa League, which is why we firmly expect the hosts to win. In addition to a tip of 1, we don't expect too many goals based on Liverpool's recent results.
