Who will get their first win of the season?
Crystal Palace won the FA Cup, their first title since 1994 when they became English second division champions. The team qualified for the international competition and can now face reigning champions Liverpool FC in the Community Shield. Although the Londoners are outsiders, they were already underdogs in the FA Cup final against Manchester City. As is well known, anything can happen at the start of the season. Like their opponents, Liverpool FC are not yet in the rhythm of the game, but are of course the favorites on paper. Crystal Palace in top form from the start this year?
The Londoners did not get off to a good start last season and went several weeks without a win in the Premier League. However, coach Oliver Glasner managed a turnaround and led his team to a good 12th place in the table. They were even one of the best teams in the second half of the season and would have been a European Cup contender in the spring. Although they failed to do so in the league, they managed to qualify for international business via the FA Cup. They put in a strong performance there, winning 3-0 in the quarter-final against Fulham and 3-0 in the semi-final against Aston Villa. In the final, they were actually clear underdogs against Manchester City. However, coach Oliver Glasner had a defensive master plan and his team narrowly won 1-0 to win their first title in more than 30 years.

Palace will have great confidence
Just how good the team was at the end of the season can also be seen in the last few games of last season. They remained unbeaten in 8 competitive games in a row, winning 4 of them, including against Manchester City. Including two draws against Arsenal FC (2:2) and Liverpool FC (1:1). Their last defeat came in mid-April against Newcastle. However, they have only lost 4 games in the whole of 2025. Liverpool FC launches a major attack
The Reds won the group stage of the Champions League last season and secured the Premier League title. Coach Arne Slot will therefore be thoroughly satisfied with his first season. Despite this success, the club has already invested over €300 million in the summer. The quality of the attack in particular has been upgraded with Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz. The full-back positions have also been filled and Alexander Isak could be another high-caliber addition. Although there are also a few departures to report, such as Trent Alexander Arnold and Luis Diaz, the squad should have improved overall. The last test match against Athletic Bilbao resulted in a 3:2 victory.

One central defender, Jarell Quansah, left the club and has not yet been replaced. This means that there are only 3 skilled central defenders available. At the end of last season, they were not always solid. In the last 4 matchdays, they conceded a total of 9 goals. Goalkeeper Alisson and captain Virgil van Dijk were also absent in the last test match, but should be fit for the Community Shield. The Reds put in a tremendous performance in their last test match at Anfield Road and therefore go into the game as favorites.
