Monaco and Nice meet in the duel for the Champions League places. Prediction, 29.03.25

Can the hosts seize the momentum?

Published on 25.03.2025 14:02.

AS Monaco have got back into their stride in recent weeks, picking up 7 points from their last 3 games. They were thus able to catch up with Nice. With exactly the same number of points and the same goal difference, one goal more for Monaco will ultimately decide the outcome. In a direct duel, one team can now secure 3rd place. Form is in Monaco's favor, as Nice have failed to win their last two games. After a defeat against Lyon, they had to settle for a point against Auxerre on the last matchday. Nice, on the other hand, won their first head-to-head against Monaco.

Monaco has found better form again

AS Monaco are once again playing a role in the battle for the Champions League places in Ligue 1, but Adi Hütter's team struggled enormously in February and dropped several points. They were also narrowly eliminated by Benfica Lisbon in the intermediate round of the UEFA Champions League. After a 3:3 draw in the second leg in Lisbon and a subsequent 2:1 defeat at OSC Lille, however, they remained unbeaten in their last three games, picking up a strong 7 points in the process. The team made up ground in the table and climbed back up to 3rd place, overtaking their upcoming opponents Nice, who have exactly the same number of points. Monaco must therefore build on their good form to retain the important 3rd place. The home crowd should also help, as they are the 2nd best team in France at home. Only PSG have collected more points in the home table. The Monegasques have won 9 out of 11 games at home and have only been beaten twice. They have a goal difference of 31:15 goals. In only 2 home games have they failed to score. Their most recent wins were 3-0 against Stade Reims and 7-1 against FC Nantes.

Monaco has a new star

The club did a lot of things right in the winter transfer window, signing Mika Biereth, currently one of the most in-form strikers in Europe. The Dane immediately found his feet in Ligue 1 and has already scored 11 goals and provided 2 assists in 9 games. This makes him the 5th-highest scorer in France's top flight after just 9 games and also the life insurance for Monaco at the moment. Especially as Florian Balogun, the second important striker, is out through injury.

Nice wants to get back into the top 3 in the table

OGC Nice have naturally set themselves the goal of finishing in the top 3 this year. They have been among the frontrunners all season and the Champions League is of course the big goal. However, the visitors have struggled somewhat in recent weeks, failing to win their last two games in the league and also being knocked out of the Coupe de France in the round of 16 against lower-ranked Stade Brohin. The last two games in Ligue 1 were both played at home. However, they conceded a 2-0 defeat against Lyon and on the last matchday only managed a 1-1 draw against Auxerre. If they also lose against Monaco, they could slip to fifth place and lose some ground. After all, they have won their last two away games in the league. However, they have clearly conceded too many goals away from home so far, namely 19 in 13 games.

Strong record against Monaco in recent years

The visitors from Nice will travel to Monaco with confidence despite their recent poor results. They have won their last two games there. Both in the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons, they won their away game against Monaco and even kept a clean sheet. They also won their only home clash this season 2-1. Monaco have only won one of their last four matches. The last two games ended with more than 2.5 goals each.

Monaco are slight favorites - Our prediction

Based on their form in recent weeks, Monaco are the slight favorites in this match, also because they are the 2nd best home team in the league. The odds for a home win are over 1.80. We think a bet on Both teams to score YES is a much safer bet. Both teams have already scored more than 50 goals this season and this has also been the case in the last two matches.
