After a run of 7 games without a win in a row, Manchester City won 3-0 against Nottingham Forest on matchday 14 of the Premier League. Most people thought that the crisis was over and that the reigning champions would start a new streak. However, this is not the case, as they only managed a disappointing 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace on the final matchday. Pep Guardiola is already talking about a difficult season and if they were to lose the Manchester derby, they would probably drop out of the top four. ManU's start under coach Ruben Amorim was probably also different, as the team only won 2 of their first 5 games. Most recently, there have been 2 defeats in a row and they are still in the bottom half of the table.

Manchester City is already struggling to catch up
The reigning champions could soon drop out of the Premier League's top four if they lose the derby against Manchester United. The last few weeks have been anything but ordinary for City. They have suffered 5 defeats in a row and have gone a total of 7 games without a win. This is by far Pep Guardiola's worst dry spell. In between, they managed a relatively commanding 3-0 home win against Nottingham Forest. On the last matchday, however, they fell back into old patterns and only finished the away game against Crystal Palace with a 2-2 draw, with Rico Lewis also picking up a red card. City have now won just one game since the end of October, making them one of the Premier League's poorest teams in terms of form. With the return of Kevin de Bruyne and Jeremy Doku, they have scored 5 goals in the last two matchdays. The defense is still very shaky, however, and Stefan Ortega has long since been replaced in goal. City will also be hoping to build on their good home record in the derby. They have won 5 of 7 games at the Etihad Stadium and lost just one.

City's defense is becoming more and more of a problem
In the last 9 games, Manchester City have conceded at least 2 goals 8 times and have only managed to keep a clean sheet once. Among others, they lost 4-0 to Tottenham Hotspur. Their record is negative again and, with 19 points, they are once again 6 points off an international starting place. Now they also have to play away from home. In 7 away games, the Red Devils have only managed one win so far. 6 points were collected in these 7 games and the goal difference is 6:7 goals. Only 3 teams have scored fewer goals away from home. Rasmus Höjlund and Joshua Zirkzee scored the two goals on the last matchday.
